FreeSpace App Reviews
It works as advertised in Mountain Lion. The new notification is very clean. I emailed the developer and the response was superfast. Thanks developer for the addition!
This is such a nice app. I love that I can just click to my drives just like that… and that I can see how much space is available on each and eject them very easily. I dont know why Apple didnt add something like this to OSX but I dont need them too now. The only app that I NEED on every one of my Macs! Get it! Oh and no problems with Mountain Lion… just FYI!
I have 7 different drives mounted on my iMac. Although its easy to right click on any of these volumes and check get info, this app is so much simpler. Luckily I saw a review in MacWorld and bought it based on that review. How lucky for me.
Simple and Great. One more thing.. I would like to have an option to change the number for "Highlight Free Space Below 200mb." Its too late when I know it by then.
Its a good and useful app, no doubt. But it can be more customizable, such as displaying hard drive info of more than only one. I often have my external drive and thumb drive connected to my MBP, and I wish to know the free space info of each one directly on menubar, without a drop down menu.
When I first saw this app, I wondered why I would need it… I installed it anyway after hearing good reviews, and now I see why those reviews were given. Such a simple little thing, but a very quick way to see all of your drives and how much free space each has with one click. One of my favorites!
I do a lot of organizing and re-organizing my files from the hd on my mbp to several external drives. Free Space is a big help in keeping me alert to the ongoing need to keep moving things from the mbp. and it makes unmounting external drives a snap (I know, you can do this from Finder… but I like the immediate availability of F-S). Glad to have this app at the top of my screen at all times.
Cant really think of any features this needs that it doesnt already have. I like that I can customize the display so it takes less space in the menu bar. Its so easy to unmount a drive I never use finder anymore. This app is great! Well worth it
Great and simple app that makes my life so much easier. Sure, you can get info on your hard drive, but that fact that I can just look up now, ah I love it! Thanks.
Im running a Mac Air, which means I have minimum Flash disk capacity - it has a frugal configuration. So continually monitoring the usage of that limited resource is critical. FreeSpace is the only tool I need for day-to-day monitoring. Its a no-nonsense tool that works very well, which is why Ive ranked it Great.
DO NOT BUY if you want your battery life to remain the same with dynamic graphics switching. In order for the app to work properly, you have to use a work around EVERY TIME you restart your machine. On May 13th I sent an email to FreeSpace support. Today is July 10th and I still have not recieved a response.
It sits in my menu bar and gives me important information on space used/remaining on my hard disk drives plus its the easiest way to unmount drives. Not earth shaking, but very helpful and unobtrusive. Have used it now for over a year with zero issues.
Very helpful app. The one annoying feature which prevents me from giving 5 stars is the fact that I cant turn off volume mount / unmount notifications. This happens every few minutes due to externally mapped network drives for Time Machine backups and iTunes libraries.
Love FreeSpace! I have it on all my Macs. It makes managing HHD size easy and has lots of view options. I also had to contact support because it seemed like it wasnt working on my MacBook Air, but it turns out TimeMachine was hiding a local backup image; even though Finder didnt count it and was showing more space, FreeSpace was correctly displaying the "true" unused space. Anyhow, great app with great support and lots of custom options!
Worth more than the $0.99 cost, does what it’s supposed to do with so little fuss that you’ll forget it’s not part of the OS. I find it especially handy with SSD-based computers since those drives tend to be smaller than traditional rotating magnetic drives. Also good with USB ’thumb drives.
I’ve had this app for a year and it always worked perfectly, however after the new update, the available space in the menu bardoes not reflect what is on the drive. Before, if I would delete a 1gb file, the space was added back to the figure in the menu bar. Now, it does not do that and I have to restart the app in order for it to reflect the true number. There is no way to contact support, so I had to leave this comment in hopes that they will see it.
I use this all the time to keep track of space and for ejecting some or all hard drives, USB drives etc. L Also it’s _very_ handy to be able to eject _ALL_ drives with _one_ click! IMO, this app is a must have if you have lots of USB drives & HDD’s connected….
Wish List
Remount drives list….
Recently, I worked with the developer of this app when I encountered a problem with using it on OS X Mavericks. He worked with me over a few days to resolve the problem and sent me a fix before the app was ready on the App Store. FreeSpace is a useful app backed up by a supportive developer. Kudos!
Using external hard drives having several partitions, this great app provides me with constant monitoring of space usage and has adjustable %-age alerts for remaining data storage capacity. It’s simple, clean and easily accessed/read. Excellent value and well worth installing.
